Moore's Cylons: "Just Not About Destruction"

Now Playing magazine has published the third part of its interview with Ron Moore. In the interview with Scott Collura, Moore hints at possible future Galactica storylines, discusses his openness to unusual plot ideas and temporizes about the cylon agenda.

Moore's Cylons: "Just Not About Destruction"

“Overall the Cylons are just not about destruction. They have their own civilization and their own ethos. What are they doing with the Colonies?” asks Moore, referring to the decimated human planets of the show. “They left a lot of the buildings intact; they’re cleaning up the bodies. I think they’re intent on using the Colonies for themselves. The question is for what.”
The article offers interesting insight into his thoughts about the series and is worth a read. (It's only potentially spoilery as he discusses thoughts they've had for the future, but not ones they've decided to pursue).

David Eick talks about green screens

If you've ever wanted to know more about how special effects shots are generated or sets extended, you can learn more in David Eick's new videoblog for Galactica over on Scifi.com.

#09 - The "Magic" of Battlestar Galactica
No spoilers. Though it's nice they're still posting new content in the off-season.

For those who missed it, Ron Moore's podcast for 209: "Flight of the Phoenix" was added as the same time as that for "Pegasus".

First half of Season 2 to be released at Christmas

TV Shows on DVD is reporting that NBC Universal has decided to release the first half of BSG's second season in time for Christmas, calling it "Season 2.0".

It will come in three slim cases with an outer box and retail for $49.98. The video will be widescreen and come with both English and Spanish subtitles. It's highly probable that Ron Moore's podcasts will be included along with other special features.

In the podcast for 210, Moore said that Universal had agreed to release the longer 1:15 cut of "Pegasus" on the DVD, so we may get some new Galactica material before the January return!

Cool tour of the Galactica CIC

A very neat feature has been added to the Sci-fi.com Galactica series website. You can take an interactive virtual tour of Galactica's Command Information Center.

It's interesting to explore the CIC's many components and see it from unusual angles.

Check it out!

David Eick videoblog tour of the Pegasus

Eick gives us on a behind-the-scenes look at the new Pegasus, introduced in Friday's episode. Its sleeker, harder-edged style is especially evident in Caine's quarters... which doesn't even feature chairs?

Videoblog 8: "On the set of the 'new' Pegasus"
In a previous videoblog, Eick explained they were only able to afford such expansive Pegasus sets because they bought them off a failed science fiction pilot. But the redressing work is still really impressive.

BSG Season 1 DVDs out today

The wait (and countdown) is over. The US version of the Season One DVDs are now available!

AOL Sneak Peek of "Pegasus"

AOL has posted a clip from the BSG summer finale to its Galactica site. You can see Kara and the rest of the pilots interact with their counterparts on the Pegasus.

Importantly, you can also see Helo in a dress uniform laughing.

Watch the clip now.

New David Eick Video Blogs

Two new videoblogs with BSG producer David Eick have appeared on Sci-fi.com:

6. Spaceships, Spaceships and More Spaceships

7. Introducing the Pegasus and the Blackbird
The sixth one principally consists of Eick touring the various ship sets: Colonial One, a viper, and a raptor in the hangar bay. But at the end, Eick talks about how Tahmoh invented what an ECO does at his control panel and they just imitate that now, which is rather cool.

The seventh one is a tour of the new sets for the Pegasus and a look at the Blackbird being built (with appropriate credit to Helo for his idea about its design).

Good news and bad news for BSG fans

The good news is that Sci-Fi has apparently unofficially picked up Battlestar for a third season, according to SyFy Portal.

'Battlestar Galactica,' 'Atlantis' To See Third Seasons.

"Sources at SciFi Channel are reporting that SciFi has unofficially decided to award both "Battlestar Galactica" and "Stargate: Atlantis" third-season pickups. The news was shared by SyFy Portal's Michael Hinman during a guest appearance on Sci-Fi Saturday Night on New Hampshire's 610 WGIR."
The bad news is for Aussie BSG fans, as apparently Ten (which shows BSG in Australia) has no plans to air the second season. Read about it here.

Thanks to MaryD for alerting me to this distressing news.
