Official BSG Convention this weekend (& new poll)

The official Battlestar convention, featuring Tricia Helfer, Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Aaron Douglas and Tahmoh Penikett is this weekend. Tickets are still available at the door.

Tahmoh will be appearing on Sunday, August 27th, at 2:30 pm.

Find out all the details about the convention at Creation's official site.

In honor of the con, I've started a new poll at right. Have you been to a convention? Met Tahmoh? Would you if you could? And (inspired by this guy bumping into Grace Park), if you ran into Tahmoh in public, would you say hi?

ETA: For fun, would you visit the Battlestar set if you could? Or would you rather maintain the illusion?

Brief interview with Ron Moore and Eddie Olmos

Now Playing Magazine spoke with BSG executive producer and writer, Ron Moore, and Edward James Olmos (Adm. Adama) in a brief interview posted yesterday.

Olmos reveals he will be directing episode 12 of Season 3 and that the episode will not be as comedic as his previous entry, "Tigh me up, Tigh me down."

The article contains only the most minor spoilers for Season 3.

Galactica gets dark(er) in Season 3

Moore adds that he’s not worried about the series getting too serious. There’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. “The show’s always had a dark premise at its heart, [but] the show’s also always been about hope and the human condition and the fact that these people struggle on in spite of everything that happens to them.”

New David Eick videoblog with the BSG cast

A funny new videoblog by BSG executive producer David Eick has been posted to Scifi Pulse. It shows how winning a Peabody has gone to Eick's head and interviews all the cast for reactions. Tahmoh has a funny bit about helicopters.

Peabody on My Mind: The Battlestar cast reveals how their Peabody win affected the show...and Dave.

The clothes from the Maxim photo shoot

Not surprisingly, the photos in the actual magazine are far nicer than the scans--definitely worth checking out. You can also make out the captions better, so in case you were wondering, here's what Tahmoh was wearing:

[LEFT] Battlestar Galactica's Tahmoh Penikett wears an Airforce sweater jacket, $125, by Calvin Klein Jeans; button-up shirt, $38, by Van Heusen; and a silk tie, $135, by Valentino.

[RIGHT] Tahmoh Penikett wears a washed lambskin zip-front sweater, $698, by John Varvatos; mock V-neck sweater, $145, by Lenor Romano; silver buckle, $365, on stingray strap, $370, by Pat Areias; Covert twill two-pleat trousers, $70, by Claiborne, and Hoop rubber dipped distressed military boots, $398, by DDC Lab.

[LEFT] Tahmoh Penikett wears a Japanese paper hand-knit circle sweater, $1,980, by Issey Miyake; sheer jersey scarf, $15, by American Apparel; New Rocker oiled denim trousers, $225, by CK39; and leather ankle boots, $495, by Emporio Armani.

Tahmoh wore both the most expensive item in the shoot ($1,980 sweater) and the least ($15 scarf). I'm not going to provide links for everything as I'm not that interested, but the scarf is available online here.

Battlestar cast photo spread in Maxim magazine

Pretty safe to say this will be the only time I'll be urging anyone to go buy Maxim, but it's definitely worthwhile this month, as the Sept. issue features a 7 page photo spread with the BSG cast. Tahmoh features prominently in the fashion shoot, appearing in three of the pics. [Click photos below for larger versions]

In addition to Tahmoh, the spread also features Katee Sackhoff, Jamie Bamber, Edward James Olmos, Tricia Helfer, Grace Park, Aaron Douglas, James Callis, and Michael Trucco...

Here are the rest of the cast photos:

Trapped Ashes to premiere at Toronto Film Festival

The anthology horror film, Trapped Ashes, in which Tahmoh plays Leo, is set for its world premiere at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival this September. Tahmoh stars in Monte Hellman's segment, "Stanley's Girlfriend," which premiered on its own this May at the Cannes Film Festival.

The film will be one of 10 genre films aired during "Midnight Madness":

Toronto - A crop of 10 shocking, rocking films for the witching hour screens as part of Midnight Madness at the 31st Toronto International Film Festival, running September 7 to 16, 2006. Now in its 19th year, this popular late-night programme showcases the best in off-kilter genre flicks including sci-fi, horror, outlandish comedy and outrageous documentaries. Stay up past your bedtime and experience new works by electrifying and adventurous filmmakers dealing in the sublimely strange...

TRAPPED ASHES (Cunningham/Dante/Gaeta/Hellman/Russell)
USA/Japan/Canada - World Premiere

Taking cues from old anthology fright flicks like THE HOUSE THAT DRIPPED BLOOD, TRAPPED ASHES brings together five directors for a delirious and creepy collection of tales. After seven strangers accept an invitation to visit a Hollywood studio lot, they find themselves trapped inside a house built as a set for a notorious horror film. In order to escape, they must share their most petrifying personal stories to unlock the exit. Using this narrative thread the five imaginative directors - Joe Dante (GREMLINS), Ken Russell (TOMMY), Sean Cunningham (FRIDAY THE 13TH), Monte Hellman (TWO-LANE BLACKTOP), and John Gaeta (visual effects supervisor for THE MATRIX series) - present stories which are shocking, seductive and surreal.

Mini-report from Timeless Destinations

Thanks to an anonymous visitor to the site, we have some news on Tahmoh's appearance two weeks ago at Timeless Destinations:

Saw Tahmoh Penikett @ the Timeless Destinations convention. Was good, intimate to begin with, only ~20 people initially but the numbers swelled to ~ 45 before his time was up. We were all a little groggy because we had been going to the con morning and the evenings had various events. There were a few comments on pranks on set.

They were just finishing the first part of the new season and were going to take a small, ~ one month break from shooting and I think he said he could be on his way to Prague Czech Republic for a short film there. Don't remember all the details but it was fun, especially as there were just a few of us there initally.
Anyone else who went please share what you remember! Thanks to anonymous for this report.

Battlestar Galactica: The Story So Far to air soon

NBC Universal will shortly begin distributing "The Story So Far," a 45 minute special that recaps what has happened in the first two seasons of Battlestar Galactica and will be narrated by Mary McDonnell. They'll distribute it by nearly every means you can think of and probably some you wouldn't (they're giving it away at Universal theme parks?).

Some lucky fans will get to see it as early as this Sunday night, when NBC broadcasts it at 10pm on the West coast after football. (Someone better record it for the rest of us!)

It will become available free On-Demand on August 28th for those that have access to that cable service, but if not, it will air nationally on Friday, September 15 at 12 am on USA.

For a full schedule of airings and list of the ways the special will be distributed (at least 8!), see these articles:

More Lesser Evil screen caps

Lesser Evil will air again on Lifetime on Wednesday, August 30th at 7pm ET. Additional caps can be seen at Northern Lights (24 total).

New Interview with BSG creator Ron Moore

Moore spoke with Sci-fi Pulse about the upcoming season of Galactica [spoilers], Caprica, and his decision to kill Kirk in Generations.

Ron Moore Shares Some Galactic Insights

‘Caprica’ is about the creation of the Cylons and takes place about 50 years before the events seen in ‘Galactica.’ There will be a strong tie to the series in that it will deal with Adama's family and the pivotal role his family played in those events, but there aren't other character ties being discussed as yet.

We might mention events from ‘Caprica’ in ‘Galactica’ at some point, but that would be well into Season Four at the earliest. I can also tell you that ‘Caprica’ is a very different show in that it's planet-based, is not action-adventure, and has no space battles whatsoever. It's a family drama set in the corporate world, but does deal with many of the same thematic issues as ‘Galactica,’ like faith, ethics, reason, and what it means to be human.

Tahmoh in Lesser Evil (2006)

In Lesser Evil, Tahmoh played "Greg," the unsupportive boyfriend to Allison Eastwood's "Karen," successful fashion designer and victim of violent crime.

Though Eastwood is the central character in Lesser Evil, Tahmoh appears only in a couple scenes as "Greg" breaks up with "Karen" after she is raped.

Lesser Evil will air again on Lifetime on Wednesday, August 30th at 7pm ET.

ETA: Added 4 screen caps. Will post more soon.

Monday, August 07, 2006

Reminder: Lesser Evil airs tonight at 9pm

Tahmoh will play "Greg" in tonight's Lifetime movie, Lesser Evil.

LESSER EVIL
August 7th at 9 pm et/pt

It takes Karen time to gather up enough courage to go to the police after she's raped, and once she does, she's shocked to learn that the cops won't do a thing about it! Now it's up to this gutsy gal to go up against a federal law-enforcement agency in order to see that her attacker is thrown behind bars once and for all.
I'm not sure how prominent "Greg" is in the movie, but if you're interested check out Lifetime tonight.

BSG Season 3 episode titles, writers and directors

Thanks to Galactica staff writer, Bradley Thompson, the basic title, writer and director information is available for the first 15 episodes of Season 3.

In summary, the season premiere will be two hours which will be followed by 9 more episodes and then a break. After the break, 9 more episodes will follow. Executive producer and writer, Ron Moore, outlined as much in his blog.

The Merovingian in consultation with Thompson has created a detailed S3 overview.

The most exciting news therein contained probably being that: "Unfinished Business - Episode 8 - written by **Michael Taylor**, Dir by Robert Young--->Michael Taylor is the former Star Trek: Deep Space Nine writer who's joining the staff this year, who wrote DS9 episodes "The Visitor" and "In the Pale Moonlight", widely held to be DS9's best episodes." As a huge fan of both those episodes, I can't wait to see his work on Galactica.

Here are the S3 episode titles known thus far:

3.1 - Occupation/Precipice (2 hours)
3.2 - Exodus, Part 1
3.3 - Exodus, Part 2
3.4 - Collaborators
3.5 - Torn
3.6 - A Measure of Salvation
3.7 - Hero
3.8 - Unfinished Business
3.9 - The Passage
3.10 - The Eye of Jupiter

**one month break**

3.11 - Rapture
3.12 - Taking a Break
+ 7 more
They're currently filming episodes 11-12. Read all the details here.

ETA: Another episode title and clarify the post.
