Battlestar Galactica panel reports, full video & party pic

Sci Fi has posted full video from the Battlestar Galactica panel on Saturday at Comic Con and here's a photo of Tahmoh at the Sci Fi/Entertainment Weekly Party on Saturday night, thanks to dryope:

Maureen Ryan of the Chicago Tribune has posted her report from the Galactica panel, which opens with a full account of the hilarious "spine-glowing" moment from the Dollhouse panel:

Why am I not surprised that the most entertaining moment of the “Dollhouse” Comic-Con panel revolved around “Battlestar Galactica”?

Tahmoh Penikett, who stars on Joss Whedon’s new show, “Dollhouse,” alongside Eliza Duskhu, got a few “Battlestar” questions during the session. One of them was, “Does Eliza’s spine glow?”

Penikett laughed, and Dushku, who apparently hasn’t watched “Battlestar,” looked confused. A moment later, when Whedon was answering a question, Penikett leaned over to explain when, exactly, Cylon characters’ spine glow on “Battlestar Galactica.”

The look on Dushku’s face was priceless as Penikett whispered in her ear. Whedon realized he couldn’t compete with what was happening between his show’s stars.

“This is like bringing a banjo on stage after the Stones play,” he joked.

Slashfilm and IGN also have reports on the Battlestar panel which include the most detail on the teaser trailer they showed for the last ten episodes.
"The ending is a perfect way to finish the show. Does everyone and everything justice," Tahmoh "Helo" Penikett said. "There is a lot of closure, and still some questions left."

Dollhouse panel photos, audio & reports from Comic Con

Tons of photos and reports are now online from Saturday's Dollhouse panel with Tahmoh, Elisha Dushku and Joss Whedon at Comic Con in San Diego. Here's another one from Screenrant: Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse Panel. Joss'd has a full audio recording of the panel that you can download here.

Not sure if this is the "spine-glowing" explanation moment or not, but it's a cute photo:

Thanks to LowFuel for these two great shots from the panel:

Also the question of what they were all signing at the FOX booth is now answered:

Video & more photos from the Dollhouse panel

With tremendous thanks to withaterrace, here is some video from the Dollhouse panel, as well as a few more photos. She also covered the Battlestar panel that followed, so be sure to check out her excellent multimedia-filled recap.

Here is video of Joss and Tahmoh discussing when he was cast on Dollhouse:

Here's a hilarious clip about Tahmoh's first day on set:

withaterrace also shared this anecdote:
A fan asked "[Insert Serious Question about Writing for Joss Here] and does Eliza's spine glow?" Everyone died, since the Battlestar panel was right after Dollhouse. Tahmoh and Joss cracked up and Eliza didn't get it, because she'd never seen BSG. Tahmoh said "I wouldn't know!" Joss couldn't answer his question for the longest time because "[he] just keeps thinking about Eliza's spine glowing." Tahmoh finally whispered what it meant in Eliza's ear and she made this :o face and it was priceless.

More reports from Comic Con & first panel photos

Zap2it has posted some highlights from the Dollhouse panel with Tahmoh, Joss and Eliza. The first photos from the panels are also trickling in, these thanks to CylonRomo.

  • Tahmoh fits right in with Eliza and Joss and the affection among everyone on the panel extremely apparent. He was Joss' first choice for the part as he's a big fan of Battlestar Galactica and had a man-crush.
  • Tahmoh finished filming BSG two Fridays ago at 4am so no shooting conflict there. "But I don't want to start talking about BSG because I might start craying on stage."
  • Someone asked Tahmoh if Eliza's spine glows. She didn't get it so he whispered the explaination in her ear. The look on her face was priceless.
  • Will there be supplemental webisodes of Dollhouse in between episodes? Yes, but he's still figuring out their structure and how they fit in with everything else. "And we will make dozens and dozens of dollars [off them]."
Plus here's a photo from the Battlestar panel that followed:

LA Times interviews Joss, Tahmoh & Eliza (video)

A reporter for the Los Angeles Times briefly spoke with the Dollhouse crew behind the scenes at Comic Con. The short accompanying article included this quote from Tahmoh:

Tahmoh for his part, was at first wary of meeting Joss. "I thought Joss wanted to grill me about not killing the Cylons with a biological weapon or something."
Joss speaks for the first minute, then Tahmoh:

Be warned the audio quality is pretty terrible.

EW interviews Joss, Tahmoh & Eliza at Comic Con

Entertainment Weekly has a great video interview with the Dollhouse gang from Comic Con: Joss Whedon, Eliza Dushku and Tahmoh. You can watch it here. Some screencaps:

They also have posted an excellent recap of the Dollhouse panel:

"What with reconceiving and reshooting the show's pilot, Joss Whedon didn't have much to present to the Dollhouse panel observers at Comic-Con on Saturday, other than an extended trailer for the Fox show (which debuts in January). But one thing about the new sci-fi/action show was certainly made clear: Man, do its stars have chemistry!...

For what it's worth, the sci fi auteur seems pleased with the new material and expounded on it at length, noting "it felt organic. It felt right -- which I can tell you the [original pilot] kind of didn't. I'm not going to sugarcoat it. I did some things that weren't right for the network. That's on me.... Also, I made the vital mistake of not giving Tahmoh shirtless scenes. That has been rectified."

The video includes some footage from a photoshoot, so look for more photos of Tahmoh et al. in Entertainment Weekly soon!

Dollhouse Comic Con panel with Tahmoh today

Some folks over at Whedonesque are twittering the panel live.

  • "Joss says Tahmoh has the forearms, Joss has the concepts."
  • "Question "Is there someone you have wanted to work with you haven't worked with yet..." (Joss - points to Tahmoh "HIM")"
  • "Now Joss Whedon is mad at me for not exterminating the cylons" -- Tahmoh (when he heard Joss was a fan)"
  • Tahmoh finished BSG 2 weeks ago so no conflicts.
  • Eliza: "Thank you Battlestar Galactica for this serious[ly?] strapping and extraordinary man."
See the thread for more. (Be warned Tahmoh is referred to as "Tamo" and "Tom" throughout...) I'll update with more when it becomes available.

Update: You can also follow via Twitter:
io9 is also liveblogging the panel.

New pilot for Dollhouse, now with Muay Thai

Joss Whedon, creator of the upcoming FOX series, Dollhouse, recently announced on Whedonesque that he'll be shooting a new pilot for the series and the first pilot will now become the second episode:

The fact is, I’m very proud of the ep we shot and the series is making me crazy with the excitement. But I tend to come at things sideways, and there were a few clarity issues for some viewers. There were also some slight issues with tone – I was in a dark, noir kind of place (where, as many of you know, I make my home), and didn’t bring the visceral pop the network had expected from the script. The network was cool about it, but not sure how to come out of the gate with the ep....

Well, the idea to do a new first episode wasn’t the network’s. It was mine. I understood their consternation, and saw the gap between my style and their expectations, and I suggested I shoot a new ep and make the one I’d shot the second. It isn’t going to be buried, like the pilot of Firefly. It’s simply coming after another, slightly cleaner ep. And because unlike Firefly, it isn’t a two hour epic which introduces everyone to each other, the onus isn’t on the new ep to explain a million things.
For another take on the news, see the Hollywood Reporter's video/interview with Joss, which captures Eliza Dushku's hilarious reaction to the news:
“And I didn’t get to wear my leather pants in the pilot, so that was a deal-breaker.”
In a boon for Tahmoh (and Tahmoh fans) the new pilot will include Paul doing some Muay Thai, as Joss reveals in a long, interesting interview with the Chicago Tribune's Maureen Ryan:
I’ve just finished the script of the new first episode, and I’ve really used the opportunity to really amp some of the characters and their introductions. [Cast member] Tahmoh [Penikett’s] going to do some Muay Thai. He’s going to be unhappy about the Muay Thai. “Do I hafta? Darn!” [Whedon was joking -- Tahmoh’s very into martial arts]
The downside to the new pilot is that there will be no new clips to show at Comic Con this weekend, as Joss explains in signature comic fashion:
R.D.A.: But how will this affect the foundation of the very turning of our precious earth, and by that I mean Comiccon?

Joss: Yeah. Unfortunately, we won’t have a new teaser to show, since we’ll start shooting after the con. People will have to settle for chatting with Eliza and Tahmoh. But they’re likeable folk. (Sadly, Tahmoh only speaks Canadian, though he has a lovely translator at his side, like Isabella Rosselini in “White Nights”.)
