Tahmoh at FanExpo Canada and Titan Maximum DVD Release

In late breaking news, Fan Expo Canada just announced that Tahmoh will be attending the August convention in Toronto.

  • Dates: August 27-29, 2010
  • Location: Metro Toronto Convention Centre
Don't hesitate to send us Tahmoh-related con reports and pictures. We'd love to share them.

In not so late-breaking news, we admit it - we missed it! Tahmoh lent his voice to Troy Hammerschmiddtt on Adult Swim's Titan Maximum last fall.

Tahmoh "appeared" in four episodes:
  • Went to Party, Got Crabs
  • To Eris, Human
  • Megamum Overdrive
  • Mercury Falling
Season One was released August 10, 2010 on DVD. You can get it at Amazon by clicking here.

Full episodes are no longer available at the Adult Swim or Hulu websites, but some of the video clips feature Troy, including this one. Titan Maximum is a production of The Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, so be warned that the material is probably NSFW and may not be to everyone's liking. For more on Titan Maximum, check out the Wikipedia page, but beware of spoilers.

Tahmoh Discusses his Dollhouse Experience

Tahmoh recently provided really thoughtful answers to readers' questions about his work on Dollhouse. Thanks Tahmoh!

How did the acting process differ from BSG to Dollhouse, and how did you approach the differences?

Interesting question. The biggest difference between the two was the tone, for lack of a better word. Each project, especially a potentially long episodic, has a specific tone or music. Joss [Whedon]'s style on Dollhouse was different than Ron Moore's on BSG. Each very unique and intelligent, yet different. Sometimes it takes a while for an actor to find that tone. Often it takes longer when there are some creative differences in the beginning of series and the direction it's taken. You have to roll with it as an actor, though, and do your part--which is to show up and do the work. That means doing extra back story or whatever else you may need for it to resonate more with you.

Was Paul an easy character for you to play, or a difficult one?
Paul was by no means easy. I was really excited to play him and had a good time on the original pilot and felt good about the work. When we started off the first season and I realized that we were going to block shoot 4 eps and cannibalize the original pilot I was thrown off a little. It honestly took me awhile to find Paul's music or tone as I put it before. I'm not sure after some major creative changes made early on that the direction or order with how they were going to develop his plot line was that clear either. There were times that were very easy and magical and others where it was somewhat difficult to connect. That's almost always the case though with a series.

Who were your favorite actors to work with on Dollhouse?
All in all, it was a great experience, and I'm so blessed to have worked with the talent that I did. Joss is brilliant and I'm honored that he chose me for the role.

Everyone in the cast was a blast to work with. Eliza [Dushku] is a true professional and worked her ass off. I was always a fan of Olivia [Williams] and Harry [Lennix]. They are excellent actors and working with that talent is always a learning experience. Fran [Kranz] is hilarious; that guy cracked me up often and was easy to work with. Enver [Gjokaj] is a gifted actor and a great guy. Dichen [Lachman] is an angel and I think has a great career ahead of her. I absolutely love Miracle [Laurie]; we had too much fun on set and always laughed together. Had some really magical scenes with her, she's quite the actor.

Tahmoh Talks About The Hostage and Candyland

We recently asked Tahmoh to tell us more about The Hostage and Candyland: The Movie, two independent films in which he has starred. Here's what he had to say.

Can you tell us more about The Hostage, how it came about, the plot, your role, where are you in the process?

The Hostage came about from Aleks Paunovic's relationship with Brent Cote. Brent is a personal trainer and he and Aleks would train together. Alek's was always telling me how talented a writer Brent is. Aleks and I have talked for years about doing a piece written for us. Aleks asked Brent if he'd write a piece for us and a week later he had it finished. Needless to say Aleks and I were both really surprised that he did it that quickly, and after reading it we both knew that we now how had our project and needed to start the prep. I unfortunately got word not soon after that I needed to get back to LA right away for Dollhouse season two, so we pushed the film until January.

Aleks and I produced the film and starred in it along with Chelah Horsdal and Juan Riedinger. Brent Cote directed it and we shot the film in three days. It was an awesome experience. So proud of the amazing crew we had. Everyone worked their asses off and we're very proud of the finished product. We also got an incredible amount of post work done from our friends at Gold Tooth and an incredible score from our friend Crispin Hands.

We're really excited about producing future projects with these guys. We're submitting the film to festivals and hopefully it'll be more accessible to the public soon.
A few years ago, you had a role in the film that has been known as "Meth: The Movie", "Run Rabbit Run", and now "Candyland: The Movie." How did you come to have a role in this film? Do you know if there are any plans for its release (the website has been recently revamped and new trailers released)?
That movie was produced and shot by a dear friend and my acting coach Kate Twa and her partner Rowan. [BSG co-star] Grace Park also had a small role in the film. It's a powerful piece and the acting in it is so brave and truthful. As far as I know they're still working on distribution for the film. It's a must see and a very important, timely piece about youth and drugs.

Next up - Tahmoh compares working for Joss Whedon and Ron Moore and talks about playing Paul Ballard in Dollhouse.
