Charity Support, Podcast, and Mortal Kombat

A new site, Checkers Green, has featured some of the charities Tahmoh supports. "Checkers Green is a central hub for Battlestar Galactica fans to find information on the latest charity efforts by members of the cast." To help them out, Tahmoh gave us an update on the charities he support. In addition to his continued support of Caleb's Hope, participation in such events as the AIDS Walk and Food on Foot in Los Angelas, and various other fundraisers and charity auctions, Tahmoh regularly supports Falling Whistles and ChildFund International (formerly The Christian Children's Fund). Check out the websites of all these organizations to learn more and find out how you can help.

Supernova and Mortal Kombat

Tahmoh recently attended Supernova Expos in Brisbane and Melbourne, Australia. Here are some of the highlights. Mortal Kombat
There's lots of buzz around the Mortal Kombat webseries. Episode 1 (see post here) had over a million views in less than 24 hours after its Tuesday release. As of this writing, the video has had nearly 4.5 million views.

Auction for Japanese Earthquake Relief
Medium at Large reports that Tahmoh, along with many other attendees at C2E2 signed posters that are currently being auctioned by with the proceeds benefiting the Japan Society Earthquake Relief Fund. For more information see the C2E2 Charity Auction site.

Michelle of Aaron Douglas Fans reports that Tahmoh also signed items in Brisbane and Melbourne for charity. As I find out more, I'll post here.

I know that the updates have been spaced a little further apart. My apologies, but family and work often get in the way of fangirling. Fear not. A New Film and Tahmoh in new Caleb's Hope Video

Tahmoh is currently in Bulgaria shooting a new film, which he describes as a "dragon slayer film of sorts". We'll be sure to let you know more about the project as the details become available.

The Express with Erin Shaw featured this great video about Caleb's Hope and its founder Holly Dignard. Tahmoh appears a few times in the video - as himself in the Real Men Don't Rape Campaign and in his role as Elias Noth from Whistler.

Tahmoh Returns to Whitehorse

Sorry for the unexpected break in posting. Work and family got busy for a while. With summer here in the North, these breaks may get more frequent, but we're still around. Now onto the Tahmoh news.

After traveling far and wide for multiple convention appearances, Tahmoh joined his family in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory to celebrate his father Tony's political career with the New Democratic Party in the territory and critical party victories in the 1980s.

The Whitehorse Star shared a lovely family photo and had this to say about Tahmoh:

After excusing himself for being a poor public speaker, the younger Penikett had the crowd of 200 laughing, mostly at themselves, as he recalled his years growing up as the child of the party.

CBC shares a very interesting seven minute interview with Tahmoh conducted at the Music, Art, and Drama Center Tahmoh attended in high school that launched his serious interest in acting. You can hear students rehearsing in the background of the interview. Here's an exert:

The fact that we have a program like this in the Yukon is incredible. Anyone who's from here knows that it's an incredibly artistic community. Always has been.... Especially in Whitehorse, there's a lot of music, there's theatre. It's very much a part of the community. Because of it, a lot of these kids with artistic ambitions and talent, to give them an outlet and a place to train, really to encourage them to pursue those dreams, it's awesome that they have that avenue and opportunity. Most small northern communities don't have that.

Tahmoh, along with BSG alums Tricia Helfer and Grace Park, made Hello! Canada Magazine's list of the 50 Most Beautiful Canadians. CTV lists all 50 here but if anyone has actual scans from the magazine, please let us know.

In continued support of the charity Caleb's Hope, Tahmoh took part in the recent Vancouver photo shoot for the Real Men Don't Rape Campaign. Caleb's hope founder Holly Dignard gave us permission to repost this mobile upload pic of Tahmoh at the shoot, and we'll be sure to let you know when a final picture is available. The Whedonverse is abuzz with news that Joss may have a new project on board ... as Tahmoh let slip in this interview conducted at FedCon in the original German or the imperfect but still readable Google Translate Version.

To end on a sad note, Canadian actress Babz Chula passed away on May 22 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She co-starred with Tahmoh and Tricia Helfer in The Green Chain, filmed just after Babz first round of chemotherapy treatments. A while back, Tahmoh and another BSG alum Kandyse McClure, helped to raise funds for The Babz Chula Lifeline for Artists Society. The society has posted this public picture of Tahmoh and Kandyse at dinner with the winner of the auction and his guest.

Signed 'Epitaph One' Script for Habitat for Humanity

Tahmoh, along with Dollhouse co-stars Eliza Dushku and Enver Gjokai, has signed a copy of the script for 'Epitaph One'. It is currently being auctioned at eBay with 100% of the final sale price benefiting Habitat for Humanity. Hurry and place your bids. The auction ends on January 31.

More on "The Hostage"

On Wednesday, January 20, Aleks Paunovic, Brent Cote, and Tahmoh ... okay not quite Tahmoh ... appeared on the show Urban Rush to promote the January 21 fundraiser for their independent film The Hostage. A portion of the proceeds from that event were donated to World Vision for relief in Haiti. Tahmoh was supposed to join them on the show, but was feeling under the weather. Not to worry. His good friend Aleks made sure Tahmoh made a special appearance.

Michelle at Battle_Star Blog posts a video of the appearance, which gives more information about the film and quite a few laughs as well.

Tahmoh Co-hosting Fundraiser in Vancouver

Tahmoh and Aleks Paunovic are co-hosting an event in Vancouver, BC, to raise funds for the costs of production on the short film The Hostage and for the World Vision Haiti Relief Fund.


Michelle at Battlestar Blog explains:

The fundraiser was suppose to be just for helping to raise funds for the costs of production on the short film THE HOSTAGE (starring both Tahmoh and Aleks), then after the horrible events in Haiti, they didn't want to miss the opportunity to get the Arts and fans together to help the world. So partial proceeds from each ticket sale will also be donated to WORLD VISION HAITI RELIEF FUND. There will also be a donation box on location if you would like to donate more to the fund.

New Riverworld Trailer and Pictures for the Holidays!

RHI Entertainment - the people behind Riverworld - have released a new and improved trailer for the movie, to be shown on SyFy on a yet-to-be-determined date in 2010.

Fans of Dollhouse organized an appreciation party for the cast and crew of the show. Bobw1o attended the appreciation party and had this to say about Tahmoh.

Know that Tahmoh, along with the rest of the cast, was super friendly. He introduced himself to me and was very gracious about the fans doing this. When I brought up having the binder signed by the cast for the person who organized it, he was one of the first to agree it was a great idea and to grab the marker.

Christmas Cards for Caleb's Hope

Tahmoh is taking part in Cards Direct's Cards for a Cause (look for him halfway down the page). When you purchase cards of his chosen design, the proceeds will go to Caleb's Hope, an organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for vulnerable women and children affected by war, poverty, and HIV/AIDS. So it's been a while, but things have been fairly quiet. Riverworld has wrapped. Dollhouse starts filming at the end of July. Here's what's been happening:

Tahmoh and several other Battlestar cast members are supporting Caleb's Hope, a charity spearheaded by Holly Dignard (with whom Tahmoh starred in Whistler). Tahmoh requested I communicate his support of this effort here:

It's something that my friend and castmate from Whistler, Holly Dignard has organized. She did a photo shoot recently with different people to help bring attention to the site. Check it out!
