Tahmoh Quotes and Darius

Trying something a bit new. Reader Jena Marie is looking for good Tahmoh quotes, preferably something "inspirational and heroic. Anything that sounds cool," she says. We thought we'd ask you, his fans! Quotes can be from Tahmoh or any of his characters. Put your quotes in the comments below so everyone can enjoy!

And did you know that "Darius" Tahmoh's character in Need For Speed: Carbon is his most popular character in Brazil? Reader Renata says that when it was announced that Globo TV in Brazil had purchased Dollhouse, the chat boards were buzzing with the news that "Darius" played "Paul Ballard." She also shared a story about watching a Battlestar Galactica episode on her computer while at the technology expo Campus Party Brasil and turning around to find a group of people watching over her shoulder. After some people commented on how good it was, one watcher said, "Take a look at Captain Helo; it´s the Darius from Carbon." Renata also sent a few screen caps, which I'll post back here in the next few days. Finally, Renata gave this little tip: many of the videos of Darius at You Tube are from Brazilian posters:

Tahmoh in Iran: Need for Speed Ad in Rasht airport

Talk about seeing video of Tahmoh in unusual places, thanks to bana76 for this unexpected video, apparently running in Iran's Rasht International airport this past summer:

"I saw this ad on a circuit TV in Iran's Rasht International Airport. I thought it was interesting. It took me a few visits and lots of attention to actually get this video, and sorry for the bad quality. Apparently the clips of Tahmoh were taken out of Need For Speed: Carbon."

Even though the audio is impossible to make out, you can tell the text at the end is in Persian.

Need for Speed: Carbon screencaps & clip descriptions

Here are some more caps and descriptions of the short clips from NFS: Carbon you can find here. For even more screencaps of Tahmoh as Darius (including green screen work for the role), see my previous posts.

I'd been sort of ambivalent about the game before, but these clips make me rather intrigued...

Boss Darius (30 sec)
Fast-paced intro to Darius (lots of posing).

Scene 1 (2 min)
Sets up the plot, establishes back story.

7 - Restaurant (1 min)
"Not all races are won on the track..."
Nikki confronts Darius about his using the player.

11 - Reversal (2:30)
"I'm going to have to cash you out..."
Darius confronts the player, while Nikki colludes with him/her.

12 - Darius Phone Call (30 sec)
"I'm going to need a crew that's motivated."

Boss Defeats Darius (23 sec)
Darius driving.

13 - Hero defeats Darius (35 sec)
"Enjoy it while it lasts. There's always someone out there who's a little faster than you are..."

Not surprisingly, the longer segments are the most interesting, but "Boss Darius" is pretty amusing as it involves alot of mugging for the camera.

Thanks to burned-phoenix for these great caps of Tahmoh as Darius in the new Need for Speed: Carbon racing game from EA.

Tahmoh as Darius in NFS: Carbon

So Need for Speed: Carbon is on shelves now and apparently there's a bonus disc with a making-of featurette that features Tahmoh as Darius. Here are two screenshots:
You can watch an online player beat Darius on YouTube here. Darius trash talks the player during play (although it's dubbed in French in this case, so it's not Tahmoh's voice).

The game looks like a lot of fun. You can check out the action at EA's website and watch videos of gameplay (some of which seem to feature Tahmoh's voice).

Need for Speed: Carbon now available

The new Need for Speed Electronic Arts videogame has been out for several days now. Tahmoh plays "Darius" the main bad guy in the game.

A review over at Yahoo explains the basic storyline behind the game:

"There's a new street-racing kingpin in town in Need for Speed Carbon and he goes by the name of Darius. For that matter, there's a whole new town, as Rockport from the previous game has been replaced with the appropriately named Carbon Canyon, a twisting and turning nighttime landscape that will serve as your racing home throughout the course of the next installment in the popular EA racing series.

Kicking off the career mode, you're treated to (or subjected to, depending on your point of view) a lengthy cutscene that includes a flashback to the main character's halcyon days as a street racer. Along the way, something happened and ties were cut between you and your old crew. Now that you've returned to Carbon Canyon, you'll run into your old crew, including Darius (played with a delicious tang of cheesiness by Tahmoh Penikett, who fans of Battlestar Galactica will recognize as Helo) and obligatory Need for Speed babe Nikki (Saw 2's Emmanuelle Vaugier)."

Thanks to Matt Brett for this screenshot:

First shots of Tahmoh in Need for Speed: Carbon

EA has posted a video interview with the female star (Emmanuelle Vaugier) of their upcoming game, Need for Speed: Carbon. Tahmoh plays Darius in the game and appears in game and shooting footage included in the interview. You see Tahmoh shooting in green screen as well as several scenes from the game.
Click on the Emmanuelle Vaugier video interview (30.9 mb - 9/14/06), to see Tahmoh.

Look for the game on November 1st.

New Need for Speed: Carbon graphics

New art has appeared for the latest in the Need for Speed video game series, Need for Speed: Carbon, which will feature Tahmoh as Darius. The multi-platform game is due to hit shelves on November 1, 2006. Here's the new logo, courtesy of NFS-FR.com:

Carbon will also feature actress and model Emmanuelle Vaugier. And from this shot, it appears the game characters will be very life-like:

Q&A with Need for Speed: Carbon producer

A Q&A with Need for Speed: Carbon Executive Producer Larry LaPierre has been posted to Electronic Arts official site. Tahmoh will play Darius in the upcoming XBox 360 game (Fall 2006).

Give us an overview of Need for Speed™ Carbon. What's the overall premise of the game?

Larry LaPierre: In NFS Carbon, our hero from Need for Speed™ Most Wanted returns back home to Palmont city only to find out things have changed. He has been framed for a race that went wrong, rival street racing gangs have taken over, and like any good conflict, it has to be settled on the streets in their cars.

A battle for control of the city takes on even greater danger when the races move out to the Canyons.

Location has had a huge impact in past NFS games. What can you say about the "world" in NFS Carbon?

LL: NFS carbon takes place in Palmont City. It is heavily influenced by a west coast/Sante Fe vibe mixed with a bit of over the top Vegas glitz, all nestled in the California hills. It's vibrant, colorful and alive.

EA officially announces Need for Speed: Carbon

Need for Speed: Carbon teaser trailer

The teaser trailer for Tahmoh's upcoming Electronic Arts racing game, Need for Speed: Carbon, from this year's E3 conference is now online.

Watch the teaser.

It's all just cars at the moment. The night racing is cool though. The comments over at YouTube will tell you exactly which cars as IDed from their headlights, which is, um, impressive?

Tahmoh to appear in Need for Speed video game

Tahmoh will be "Darius" in the upcoming Need for Speed racing video game from Electronic Arts. Called Need for Speed 7 by IMDB, fans assert the game will be called "Need for Speed: Carbon," per an annoucement at Sony's E³ 2006 conference.

According to wikipedia, the game will be for Playstation 3 and should be released in November of 2006.

See a 4-second (I kid you not) preview here. No actors, just a car.

Apparently the game's production involves using real actors (as well as a stunt coordinator) on location in Vancouver. You can get a good idea for what it might be like by looking at the previous version of the game, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, which featured Josie Maran as Mia Townsend.
